Lasance Initials: A Classic American Catholic Font
These distinctive initial capitals were sold by the Cincinnati Type Foundry in the 1880s, and they saw use in Catholic books for decades, including the Manual of Prayers of the Third Plenary Council of Baltimore and the prayer books and missals of Rev. Francis Xavier Lasance (1860-1946).
As we were unable to find a modern version of this typeface anywhere, we digitized it ourselves for our own in-house use. And now for the first time we are also offering this font to the public.
Lasance Initials contains a full set of capitals (A-Z), a second variation of T, and two modified letters (C and T) that appear in the Baltimore Manual. As this is a display font, there are no lowercase letters.
Font files will be emailed to you when we process your order (usually within a day or two). Files are usable with both PC and Mac operating systems.
